Overview

Taqueria Capulhuac, located at 6315 S Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90007, is the kind of place that feels like a real neighborhood treasure, especially for anyone who appreciates traditional Mexican flavors done right. If you are searching for a spot that delivers comforting, deeply satisfying dishes without overcharging, this is one to pay attention to. The menu has earned a strong reputation for its barbacoa, which stands out for its rich flavor, tenderness, and that slow-cooked quality people always hope for but do not always find. The consomé de borrego is another highlight here, known for being deeply savory, warming, and full of character, the kind of broth that immediately brings to mind authentic cooking from Mexico. There is also a lot of praise for the panzita, making Taqueria Capulhuac especially appealing for diners who enjoy classic, hearty specialties that are not always easy to find in every taqueria around Los Angeles. What makes this place even more appealing is that the food is often described as tasting like something you would have in Mexico City, which gives it a special sense of authenticity and cultural familiarity. It is not trying too hard to be trendy or flashy; instead, it seems to focus on serving the dishes people come back for again and again. The pricing also adds to its charm, because it manages to offer food that feels generous and satisfying without feeling expensive. That balance of quality, authenticity, and value gives Taqueria Capulhuac an easy appeal for both regular locals and first-time visitors. It also has the atmosphere of a hidden gem, the sort of spot people love to mention once they feel like they have discovered something truly special. For anyone who enjoys bold traditional flavors, especially lamb barbacoa and a memorable consomé, this taqueria has the kind of reputation that makes it sound worth seeking out rather than simply stumbling across.

Estado-de-Mexico-style Barbacoa. A very simple and humble establishment but the food is delicious. The flavor is as authentic as it gets. They sell tacos as well as half pounds and pounds of meat. The food comes with all the condiments (onion, cilantro, peppers, etc.) separate (in plastic bags). I am pretty sure it's CASH ONLY. They also sell consome (meat's broth), aguas frescas, orange juice and flans. There are several long tables with benches to sit on. Their parking area is small but fits about 3 or 4 cars parked in parallel. Everything we ordered was really good. Do not expect a restaurant. However, the taste of the food is pretty authentic and delicious. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO PREPARE YOUR PLATE after they bring you your food: You basically place some of the meat in a plate/tortilla, squeeze some lime juice in it, add some chopped onion and cilantro and add as much salsa as you'd like. Last, add a little bit of consome to your mix and violá, you got an authentically-prepared Mexican Barbacoa plate/taco! Take a look at some of my pics. I am coming back to this place! Barbacoa estilo Estado de México. Deliciosa. Yo volvería a comer aquí nuevamente.
