Overview

Navajo Frybread in Houck, Arizona, is the kind of roadside food stop that proves simple food can leave a lasting impression. Located just off I-40, this Native American restaurant and food stand is easy to reach, with plenty of parking available even for larger vehicles and big rigs. It is not a fancy dining destination, but that is part of its charm. The focus here is fresh, hot fry bread prepared for people who want something filling, flavorful, and memorable.

The fry bread is easily the highlight. Fresh from the stand, it has a light and pleasantly chewy texture without feeling overly greasy. That balance makes it enjoyable on its own, but it also works perfectly as the base for a Navajo taco. Topped with beans, seasoned meat, salsa, and other classic ingredients, the taco is hearty while still allowing the warm fry bread to remain the star of the meal.

For something sweeter, the cinnamon fry bread is another favorite. Warm dough combined with cinnamon creates a simple treat that works especially well after a savory Navajo taco. Whether you are stopping for lunch or just want a quick snack during a road trip, ordering both gives you a nice taste of what Navajo Frybread does best.

The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Native music may be playing nearby, adding a calm and welcoming feel while you wait for your order. Seating is limited to a picnic bench beneath a ramada, so comfortable weather makes the experience even better. Since this is primarily a food stand, visitors should expect outdoor dining rather than a traditional restaurant setup.

There is also a store next door where travelers can pick up drinks and other essentials. Combined with the convenient interstate access and spacious parking, Navajo Frybread makes an easy stop during a drive through Houck. For anyone craving authentic-style fry bread with a soft, chewy center and freshly cooked flavor, this small roadside stand is well worth adding to the route.

Fun stop at the store and to get fresh, hot fry bread. We got the Navajo taco and cinnamon. Delicious. They were playing the most relaxing native music. Fun stop!

I stopped for lunch to get a Navajo taco. I waited about 5-10 minutes to have my order taken. There was o my one woman working so the service was a bit slow, however the food came out quickly. The food was decent, and came with salt and chilis on the side.

Easy roadside stop. Kids said fry bread was yummy. No GF options for me. Next to store with clean bathroom and tourist momentos.

This was something that was on my bucket list to try while we were on our cross country road trip. We spotted this place while stopping at Chee's next door, and will say this was probably one of the best places we stopped at during the whole trip! We sat at the outdoor picnic table, and chatted with locals in the area who were waiting on their order. Learned a lot about the area in a very short amount of time while waiting. When our order came out, I really thought it was going to be similar to a donut, and boy I couldn't have been more wrong! It was flavorful, It was light, and airy. I have since been trying to duplicate this at home! If you are in the area, this is a MUST try!

It's a frybread stand by the highway near gorgeous red rocks. The person workinh the stand seems to dislike customers but the frybread is Top Notch! I would have sat outside to enjoy it but the biting flies were eating me up.
